Thomas Welbank: is an Advanced Clinical Practitioner who leads the Acute Enteral Nutrition Service at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in South Yorkshire. Over the last 10 years Thomas has developed a wrap-around service which operates through a single point of access, where Advanced Practitioners are required to assess, diagnose, and treat patients who present through elective and emergency pathways. During this period, Thomas has performed over 800 de novo percutaneous gastrostomy procedures within an Interventional Radiology setting. Thomas has presented at various national meetings including The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), The British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) and the National Nurses Nutrition Group (NNNG). Publications include the Mistakes in gastrostomy insertion and how to avoid them. UEG Education 2024; 24: 8-11. 2024. He is also Chair of the Advanced Practice Specialist Group, at the British Dietetic Association, where he contributes to the development of standards and the advancement of practice.
